Neil Lennon is hoping that Alex McLeish will give Kieran Tierney an additional two weeks off this summer.

The defender has suffered pelvic, ankle and calf injuries this season and made the journey to Kazakhstan only to be ruled out of the recent international through injury.

If Celtic reach the Scottish Cup Final they’ll be playing at Hampden on May 25 with Scotland playing European Championship qualifiers on June 8 and 12.

The Daily Record reports:

Lennon insists the call on Tierney’s potential participation in the June double-header will be made by the Scotland set-up but he said: “Ideally I’d love to shut Kieran down for three months and give him a rest.

Let him do some conditioning work and stay off the grass. It’s not an ideal situation at the minute. I can’t make that decision (on ?Scotland). Tim Williamson is our physio so he’ll make that call ?with Alex McLeish and his ?backroom staff.”

Celtic’s first European qualifiers of next season will be on July 9 or 10 with a trip to Austria or the Czech Republic likely for pre-season training and matches.

International players are generally given an extra week off before returning for pre-season training but anything less than a complete break for four weeks is less than ideal.

Tierney lasted 73 minutes of Sunday’s Glasgow derby before giving way to cramp and is expected to be used sparingly over the remainder of the season.
