Aberdeen duo Derek McInnes and Tony Docherty have been charged by the SFA for their conduct during the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat from Celtic.

Watching their side lost at the national stadium for the fourth time in under three years proved too much for the Dons management team as they watched the final stages from the stand at Hampden.

Docherty’s case should be a straightforward one of misconduct but McInnes could put the SFA in the spotlight if he claims that his gesture was related to the abuse he was receiving from a small section of Celtic fans in the North Stand.

BBC Scotland reports:

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes and assistant Tony Docherty have been charged by the Scottish FA after both were sent to the stand during last week’s defeat by Celtic.

Docherty was dismissed at half-time and has accepted a one-match touchline ban for misconduct.

McInnes was sent off after making a gesture towards Celtic fans during the Scottish Cup semi-final.

He has until Thursday to respond to the charge with a hearing set for 3 May.

Celtic commented on Monday to condemn the fans that chanted about McInnes but also made reference to some of the songs sung against Celtic that aren’t as popular for the media to discuss.

The hearing for McInnes comes the day before Celtic visit to Pittodrie.
