Four months after his incredible performance at Ibrox John Beaton will referee his first Celtic match of 2019 at the potential title clincher at Pittodrie on Saturday.

Ryan Christie, Scott Brown and Tony Ralston were all on the receiving end of attacks from Alfredo Morelos who escaped without even a booking.

After the SFA opted against taking retrospective action Celtic issued a statement requesting an explanation that referee’s performance was made public. That request was ignored with no follow up from Celtic similar to the statement about Steven McLean in 2015.

Beaton handled three other Celtic matches in the first half of the season including the 1-0 defeat at Tynecastle where Steven Naismith kicked out at a grounded Jonny Hayes then leaned over the winger to shout at him. The on loan Hearts forward escaped punishment for that incident.

Celtic require one point to clinch the title and will face an Aberdeen side without the injured Graeme Shinnie, Niall McGinn and Conor McLennan. Defender Andy Considine is suspended for the match.

Willie Collum will take charge of the Alloa Athletic v Ayr United match, Bobby Madden will referee Hibs’ visit to Ibrox.
