The Daily Record have repeated their health claims about Alex McLeish and predicted that the Scotland boss could be replaced within a week.

The Record first published the claims 10 days ago but after denying that talks were planned with their international manager the SFA refused to deny the claim that McLeish was about to be sacked.

Scotland’s disastrous 3-0 defeat away to Kazakhstan caused alarm bells to ring but the Record insists that the main worry at the SFA is over McLeish’s well being.

Today they report:

When the Daily Record first revealed that Big Eck was facing the end more than a week ago our story was not written with any malice and nor was any gun being jumped.

There was no joy at all to be derived from the telling of this particular story.

We were criticised in some quarters for alluding to an incident which happened ahead of McLeish’s last match in charge against San Marino but we will not be bullied or brow beaten into apologising for telling our readers the truth, even when it is awkward and even unpalatable.

The fact is, concern over the impact the strain of the Scotland job might be having on the 60-year-old is the reason these discussions have been taking place.

James Forrest and Oli Burke were surprisingly dropped for the match with San Marino but it took the introduction of Forrest after 70 minutes to ensure that Scotland picked up full points.

Scotland’s next matches are on June 8 and 12 which falls less than a month away from Celtic’s opening European qualifiers for next season which fall on July 9 or 10.

Neil Lennon has already stated that he is hoping Kieran Tierney is given an extended summer break.
