The national outrage over Scott Brown smiling, laughing and celebrating has reached a new peak with his actions reviewed by Police Scotland and the Crown Office!

This morning the Evening Times carries the report, whether it was instigated by the Glasgow based publisher isn’t known.

Under the headline ‘Police consult prosecutors over Scott Brown’s ‘goading’ behaviour at Old Firm match‘ they report.

He faced widespread criticism following the incident, including from Steven Gerrard who said he ‘would’ve gone’ for the player.

However, a spokeswoman for Police Scotland said chiefs were content with the incident.

She added: “After consulting with the Crown Office and reviewing the circumstances, Police Scotland is content that the actions of players at the Celtic v Rangers SPFL match on Sunday March 31 2019 were in the wider context of a sporting event.

“The actions of the players involved are for the relevant sporting authorities to address.”

The widespread criticism seems to come from social media and message boards, encouraged by the comments of Steven Gerrard.

For the avoidance of doubt Brown was elbowed, punched and pushed during Sunday’s derby match which Celtic won 2-1 to go 13 points clear at the top of the SPFL

With the Police not taking any action the focus now falls on the SFA and the SPFL to see how seriously they treat breaches of discipline.

After being red carded in the 31st minute Alfredo Morelos initially refused to go off the park, choosing to confront the referee and his assistant. Twenty-four hours later he apologised to his team-mates and supporters, no apology was offered to Brown or the match officials.

Following Celtic’s second goal Ryan Kent sent Brown to the deck after lashing out with his left fist, with all four match officials missing the incident it will be upto the SFA Compliance Officer to take any retrospective action.
