Lee Congerton has again been linked with a move to Leicester City.

Celtic’s Head of Recruitment was closely linked to Brendan Rodgers after first working with the Irishman at Chelsea.

Rodgers brought Congerton to Celtic in March 2017 but when he moved to Leicester in February with Chris Davies, Kolo Toure and Glen Driscoll his Head of Recruitment was left behind.

Leicester’s current Head of Recruitment, Eduardo Macia, will leave the club at the end of the season with Rodgers giving little away when he was asked for an update on a replacement.

He told The Sun:

I know the club is progressing with some candidates, but there is nothing new to add

There is still work going on behind the scenes and we have a number of recruitment staff still here compiling the list for the types of players, and then the club will appoint someone hopefully soon.

The club is working very hard behind the scenes identifying the types of players we can bring in, but that is ongoing.

The club will ask my opinion on it. I will always work with the club on identifying the talent and people coming in hopefully can bring the talent in, but ultimately it will be the decision of the club, but I am happy with that.

My strength is working with players and being on the grass and dealing with them.

It is a separate skill-set and then we have people who can bring the players in. The club have done well on that front so hopefully it can continue.

Neil Lennon has spoken positively about discussions with Congerton relating to Celtic’s plans for the transfer window but it seems unlikely that someone so closely associated with the former manager will have a role to play under the new regime.

With their first pre-season match on June 26 and opening European qualifier on July 9 or 10 transfer business will be a priority for Celtic as soon as they announce the permanent replacement for Rodgers.
