Alex McLeish has been blanked by the Scotland international squad.

Not a single member of the Scotland squad has passed comment on his departure or thanked him through social media.

The end came for McLeish at noon today as the SFA released a statement in which chief executive Ian Maxwell and the out going manager thanked each other for their efforts. With the friendly nature of the statement it can only be assumed that an agreement has been reached on the remainder of his contract.

Six Celtic players were named in the squad for last month’s double header against Kazakhstan and San Marino but none of them have made any comment on today’s news.

McLeish made Andy Robertson his captain but the Liverpool defender has had nothing to say about his former international boss.

Malky Mackay or Scott Gemmill could be appointed as a caretaker with most candidates looking to avoid the June double header against Cyprus and Belgium when the squad is likely to be hit by a spate of call offs.

No one at the SFA was prepared to face the media after today’s announcement.
