Hearts forward Steven MacLean has given Scott Brown the perfect defence when he appears before the SFA later this week on the bizarre ‘not acting in the best interests of Association Football’ charge.

Television coverage from Sky Sports and BBC Scotland has failed to identify what Brown’s precise crime was, although a couple of fan videos have been avidly viewed to try and pin something on the Celtic skipper.

Celtic haven’t yet revealed any details of what Brown has been charged with but the consensus seems to be that he made a ‘Get it up you’ gesture.

Whatever gesture Brown is alleged to have made was at least 15 yards from the goal-line and 25 yards from the visiting supporters.

With MacLean unlikely to be charged by the SFA, it is a gesture that he has made regularly during his career the charge against Brown appears doomed to fail.

Andy Halliday, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos all endured suspensions following the Glasgow derby with the charge made to Brown looking like a poor attempt to even things up.
