As if the SFA didn’t have enough problems to deal with their decision to charge Scott Brown with ‘not acting in the best interests of Association Football’ has opened much more than a can of worms.

Ridicule and anger were the first reactions as it began to sink in that laughing, smiling and celebrating could actually bring about a charge from the guardians of the game.

Curiously the actual incident and evidence against the Celtic captain remain unknown, Sky Sports and BBC Scotland have been unable to come up with anything which suggests that social media has been scanned to find something to be offended by.

Which leads to another question, who pushed for and discovered Brown’s ‘crime’?

Are there people inside the SFA searching for something to be offended by?

How could those people have failed to notice the gestures made by Ryan Kent and Joe Worrall to Celtic fans after the Ibrox side equalised?

The distant video clips have nothing conclusive on Brown’s alleged gestures, they show the Celtic midfielder at least 12 yards from the bye-line, beyond which there are a couple of yards of grass and a batch of stewards and police between the player and opposition supporters. He finished the match in that area of the pitch.

Celtic have promised to contest the charges vigorously, double standards are everywhere, whether it’s an own goal or a can of worms the SFA have left themselves wide open by today’s bizarre course of action.
