Ross Doohan has been named as Ayr United’s Young Player of the Year.

Without a senior performance to his name the 20-year-old moved on loan to Somerset Park during the pre-season and grabbed the chance to become first choice keeper.

Ayr were closely in contention for the title up until the new year with Doohan a regular and also getting into the Scotland u-21 side.

Ian McCall’s side have drifted off the pace but are assured of a play-off place despite being tipped for relegation at the start of the season having won promotion from League One through the play offs.

Doohan has played over 40 matches this season earning priceless experience including the deflation of losing a poor goal during the recent televised defeat against Dundee United.

With Conor Hazard out on loan at Partick Thistle Celtic have two outstanding young keepers on their books, next season they could both be doing with playing at a higher level, finding the right clubs will be critical for their development.
