Celtic are expected to make a bid of £1.2m for David Turnbull.

The Motherwell midfielder emerged as the top talent in the Scottish game and would seem to fit the perfect profile of a Celtic player.

After a slow start to last season Fir Park boss Stephen Robinson turned to youth after the winter break with Turnbull improving week by week to finish the campaign with 16 goals from 34 appearances.

In the Daily Mail the reliable Stephen McGowan reports:

Celtic are plotting a £1.2million move for Motherwell midfield prospect David Turnbull.

And the Scottish champions face competition for the Fir Park teenager from English Premier League Brighton.

The 19-year-old scooped the Scottish Football Writers young Scottish player of the year prize after 16 goals in 34 appearances for the Lanarkshire side in his breakthrough season.

Turnbull would appear to be in the Stuart Armstrong role and is contracted to Motherwell until June 2021.

Motherwell will be in no rush to do business with Celtic while the hoops will be anxious to avoid a repeat of last summer’s John McGinn saga.

Turnbull has been with Motherwell for more than a decade with a move to Celtic likely to improve his international prospects although the deal will have to be right for the Lanarkshire side including the all important add-on clause.
