Simon Donnelly shared a picture that captured three distinct periods in Celtic’s history- Jock Stein, Paul McStay and Scott Brown.

Back in 1973 Stein’s side raised the bar by clinching their eighth successive title with a side that included Lisbon Lions Billy McNeill, Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox alongside the new guard of Kenny Dalglish, Danny McGrain, Dixie Deans and Harry Hood.

Between Stein’s side and the modern dominance McStay was one of the greatest ever talents to play for Celtic, unfortunately despite a few highlights his peak years were spent during a six year trophy famine.

Despite that spell the midfielder took part in many great Celtic occasions including the dramatic Scottish Cup success in 1985 followed a year later by winning the Premier Division at Love Street. Two years later he was Scotland’s Player of the Year during Celtic’s centenary season.

Yesterday there wasn’t a happier fan than the Maestro as he walked out onto Celtic Park with the SPFL trophy to hand over to Brown and the current squad who are one title away from matching the 9-in-a-row achieved by Stein in 1974.
