Steven Gerrard has blamed his board of directors for refusing Celtic a Guard of Honour at Ibrox on Sunday.

Neil Lennon’s side clinched the title last Saturday away to Aberdeen with the well established convention being that they are given a Guard of Honour at their next match.

In 2015 Hearts were given a Guard of Honour at Ibrox after winning The Championship but it seems that the same respect won’t be shown to their city neighbours.

“To be honest with you my thoughts on it are not important on that subject,” Gerrard told The Sun.

The club have made a decision on that and decided there won’t be a guard of honour, so my thoughts are irrelevant. I will follow what I’m told to do by the people in charge of the club.”

Celtic have been given a Guard of Honour by various clubs over the last seven years but won’t be effected by the snub at Ibrox on Sunday.

Referee Kevin Clancy will lead both teams onto the park for the 12.30 kick off with just 800 Celtic supporters inside the ground.

A year ago Dave King announced that Celtic would only be given the same ticket allocation as other visiting clubs with the hoops responding with a similar move for their home fixtures.

The after match scenes at the last derby clash at the end of March resulted in both clubs being fined by the SFA with the refusal to form a Guard of Honour adding to the tension around Sunday’s match.
