John Hartson has told Brendan Rodgers to forget any idea of a warm welcome back among Celtic supporters.

After clinching the SPFL title at Aberdeen Neil Lennon and Scott Brown both paid tribute to the man that started the campaign then disappeared overnight to become manager of Leicester City.

Within 24 hours Rodgers was transformed from legend to leper, leaving Celtic to face Hearts and Hibs after gutting the club of coaching staff.

John Kennedy and Stevie Woods stayed behind, steered the team towards the treble with a gushing Rodgers still telling Leicester’s in-house media about his lifelong love of the club he left in the lurch at the end of February.

Hartson wasn’t born a Celtic supporter but 19 years after his £6m move from Coventry he knows the values of the fans and what makes them tick.

He told the Evening Times:

There are criticisms about his record in Europe, but you have to admire the job he has done.

I think the Celtic fans do, but they are still angered and feel let down by the way he left. He jumped ship out the back door and was away down the road, leaving the club with no manager at a crucial time.

In my view, it will take the Celtic fans a long time to get over it. If they ever get over it.

Neil is entitled to his view, as Scott Brown has too. And I agree with them that you can’t whitewash what he did for the club.

Last night Leicester lost 1-0 away to Manchester City, going into Sunday’s final match at home to Chelsea they are sitting in ninth place in the EPL.
