It seems that Brendan Rodgers just can’t come to terms with the contempt with which he is held in by Celtic supporters.

With one journey down south to dedicate his life to Leicester City his legacy was destroyed just three months before he could have left as the biggest hero since Henrik Larsson.

For the best part of three years he told anyone who would pop a microphone his way about how he was living the dream, how he had been born into Celtic and how he saved Danny McGrain from the dole queue,

He was pretty good at it, convincing, barely any Celtic fans doubted him.

The day before he was due to face Hearts at Tynecastle, ahead of a cup tie at Easter Road, he headed south without a word to the players that he had taken training on the Monday.

A sugar coated statement about leaving behind ‘friends for life’ was trashed by Celtic supporters as details leaked out of how he upped sticks with three members of his coaching staff.

One week later following a Leicester match he asked a BBC reporter how Celtic had got on, they do have Wi-Fi at the King Power Stadium.

The jigsaw pieces have been put together, the Clyde Tunnel story demolished and the full picture has emerged.

If Rodgers had resigned at 6pm on Saturday he would be a Celtic hero, fans would have accepted that the ambitions of the board no longer matched his own.

He never did that, he bolted at the end of February and despite having a 100% record in domestic trophies he will never be welcomed among Celtic supporters, his every utterance treated with suspicion.
