The impressive Celtic By Numbers website has highlighted some horror statistics from Celtic’s weekend defeat at Ibrox.

Over the last decade video analysis has allowed coaches and managers to get the raw data from matches to back up their touchline impressions.

Every aspect of performance can be analysed from the distance covered in matches through to the percentage of passes that reach an opponents.

The raw data can be tedious for most fans to devour but when it is put into every day language it paints a damning picture for two of the Celtic players that started the match at Ibrox.

Celtic By Numbers reports:

Burke completed 7 passes all match, and lost the ball 7 times

  • Rogic completed 9 passes and only 1 took out an opponent
  • Sinclair completed 1 pass in 24 minutes
  • Hayes gave the ball away 16 times with errant passes including 5 failed crosses
  • Toljan either passed it back, or forward and to a blue shirt – he gave the ball away 14 times in 45 minutes
  • The forward players completed 3 pack passes between them

Neil Lennon will be aware of these stats and much more from the match but is likely to put those details on the back burner with just two matches left to play this season.

Two wins over Hearts will make history, numbers unlikely to be matched before a summer of change that is likely to see the team that starts next season unrecognisable from the XI that played at Ibrox at the weekend.
