Neil Lennon will be out in the Spanish sun as speculation turns to expectation over who will become Celtic manager.

Since he was appointed caretaker boss at the end of February the Irishman has been constantly quizzed about his own hopes and plans.

Lennon has handled the speculation expertly without a single slip- there hasn’t been a plea for the job or a blast at the board for leaving him in the dark.

The former Hibs boss will be in the spotlight before, during and after tomorrow’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, 48 hours later he will be in Marbella with the spotlight firmly on the Celtic board to announce who will take the club into Champions League qualifiers six weeks later.

I knew the situation and I’ve said it ad nauseam since I’ve been here,” Lennon told the Evening Times. “I’ve said it will be resolved after the cup final and that hasn’t changed.

I’m going to Marbella on Monday for a few days for my mate’s 50th birthday. I’ll be around on Sunday, then away for three or four days. That’s in place. We’ll see what happens after that.

If there’s communication we can do it on Sunday, we can do it over the phone. Look, I’m not pre-empting anything, that’s pointless. What I’m telling you is my plan for after the cup final – go away and see what happens.”

Davie Moyes and Rafa Benitez are the two names most quoted, alongside Lennon, to get the job on a permanent basis.

Moyes has been out of football for a full season after taking a short term job at West Ham while Benitez is involved in talks with Newcastle United about extending his contract at St James Park.
