Neil Lennon has hit out at the £7,500 fine that Celtic were hit with following the March Glasgow derby.

After the final whistle Scott Brown was set about by a range of opponents led by Andy Halliday following their 2-1 defeat.

During the match Alfredo Morelos had been sent off for elbowing Brown while Bobby Madden failed to punish Ryan Kent for punching Brown following Celtic’s second goal.

Morelos, Halliday and Kent all served suspensions following that match while an attempt to drag Brown into the issue was dismissed when the hoops skipper appeared in front of the SFA.

Celtic haven’t appealed against the fine but Lennon was in no mood to go along with the tired old claim that both sides are as bad as each other.

Lennon explained to The Sun:

My players have got to play and act like champions and that will be drilled home to them.

I want them to play a good game, and play it the right way in terms of their discipline.

It’s been an issue for the opposition all season. Yet we get tarred with the same brush after the last game, when I think my players acted very well. Rangers are the ones with the red cards and the suspensions.

Broony was being sucked into that bracket, but thankfully the right decision was made at the tribunal. We take offence at being tarred with the same brush at times.

In terms of the sanctions, you’d have to ask the SFA, it was their decision.

Kevin Clancy will be in charge of his first Glasgow derby tomorrow with the homeside without Allan McGregor who is serving the first match of a three game suspension after being sent off last week against Hibs.
