The focus is firmly on Peter Lawwell this morning to come up with a swift solution to the manager’s position at Celtic.

When Brendan Rodgers left the club at the end of February there was an almost flawless handover to Neil Lennon who took over on a caretaker basis with the remainder of the season an audition for the job on a permanent basis.

It has appeared that Celtic could look around for a more glamorous name to take over from Rodgers with Lennon a trusty option to fall back on if they can’t attract an A-list manager.

This morning there are a number of stories emerging putting that theory in doubt.

Firstly the Daily Record warns that ‘Neil Lennon will go elsewhere if the club dither over appointment’. Although the story is from former international team-mate Steve Lomas it does carry a message that perhaps hasn’t yet been considered.

After Hibs Lennon wants to return to management, if he isn’t hearing the right noises from Celtic it will increase his determination to get a job elsewhere.

More worryingly the Daily Mail report that John Park is close to agreeing a five year contract as Sunderland’s Director of Football.

Park was assumed to be part of a Lennon management package, if he is on his way to Sunderland then Celtic will be involved in a dual search for a manager and Head of Recruitment.

Celtic haven’t said a word since appointing Lennon on a caretaker basis but an announcement is expected within days of the Scottish Cup Final on May 25.
