Garry Parker WON’T be part of Neil Lennon’ backroom team.

According to a report in The Sun, Lennon’s assistant at Celtic, Bolton and Leicester won’t be making a return to Glasgow.

GARRY PARKER won’t be returning to Celtic as part of Neil Lennon’s back-room staff.

Reports this week had claimed that Lennon – set to be confirmed as Hoops manager on Friday – was lining up a reunion with his trusted right-hand man.

But while the Northern Irishman intends to bring in another coach, SunSport can reveal it won’t be Parker. John Kennedy is expected to continue as No2.

That decision might partly explain why six days after Peter Lawwell’s unexpected media conference there has so far been no confirmation that Lennon has accepted the offer to become manager. Parker was a first team coach with Alan Thompson from 2010 to 2014 with Johan Mjallby titled as assistant manager.

When he was offered the job of caretaker in February Lennon came on his own with Damien Duff stepping up from the reserves to fill the gap left by the departures of Chris Davies and Kolo Toure.

One more coach would be expected to join Lennon’s backroom team with Kennedy and Stevia Woods assured of their places.

If there is an announcement today of Lennon getting the job he has 18 days to work with in the transfer market before Celtic begin pre-season training.

After reporting to Lennoxtown on June 17 the first pre-season match is in Austria nine days later with the first competitive match coming on July 9/10 with a Champions League qualifier.
