Kieran Tierney has been pictured in hospital after having surgery on his double hernia.

The defender was expected to play in the final of the Scottish Cup against Hearts at Hampden but a late decision meant that he was left out with Jonny Hayes taking his place.

Tierney has been troubled with injury since the middle of December but returned to the Celtic side at the end of February, playing against Motherwell in Brendan Rodgers’ last match in charge.

Neil Lennon then nursed him through the remainder of the season with his last match coming in the SPFL title clincher away to Aberdeen.

With his surgery completed Tierney will enjoy a two week break before resuming pre-season training with Celtic’s first Champions League qualifier on July 9/10.

With Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic moving on and Mikael Lustig out of contract, Tierney and Kris Ajer are likely to be the only regular defenders available for the start of next season.
