Celtic completed their Reserve League campaign with a 3-2 win over St Johnstone on Monday.
It’s unlikely that the hoops will play in next season’s 17 match competition but they went out with a flourish against a strong Saints side that included Brian Easton, Danny Swanson and David Wotherspoon.
Playing against that sort of experience is priceless, Karamoko Dembele was in direct opposition to Easton, but too rare to ensure real development for the players involved.
Celtic went into the break trailing 1-0 to a goal from Wotherspoon but equalised just before the hour mark through a brilliantly taken Mikey Johnston free kick.
Ewan Henderson raced onto a great Robbie Deas through ball to put Celtic in front soon after and although St Johnstone equalised substitute Grant Savoury scored a late winner in his final appearance for the club.
Last week it was reported that just eight of the 18 clubs in the Reserve League had applied to play in next season’s competition with St Johnstone among those pulling out.
