Celtic have confirmed the departure of Mikael Lustig.

An early evening post of Instagram confirmed the long good-bye from the popular defender with the club twitter account confirming the news.

The last month has been an awkward time for Lustig with Neil Lennon very public in his desire to give a new contract to the player that he signed in January 2012.

After the final whistle in the Scottish Cup Final it seemed certain that the 32-year-old had played his last match as he went into the stand to ensure that his two daughters got to join in the lap of honour.

Fittingly his last act as a Celtic player was to head the ball through to Odsonne Edouard to score the winning goal against Hearts that clinched the Treble Treble.

Later today Lustig is likely to be pictured as a Gent player as a new chapter in his career begins- as a Belgian based Celtic fan.
