The likely signing of David Turnbull will end Celtic’s interest in Rakheem Harper.

The West Brom midfielder is out of contract and was watched by Neil Lennon in the second leg of West Brom’s play-off defeat against Aston Villa.

With only a development fee required to complete the move Harper was reported to have been a guest of Celtic at the end of season match against Hearts where the SPFL trophy was presented.

Midfield is an area of the park in which Celtic are well placed with Scott Brown, Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham, Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie competing for three places with Ewan Henderson, Nir Bitton and Youssouf Mulumbu also available.

The Daily Mail reports:

Neil Lennon’s first signing since returning as manager, Turnbull’s arrival will end Celtic’s interest in West Bromwich Albion free agent midfielder Rekheem Harper.

On Wednesday night Motherwell announced that they had accepted an offer from Celtic for Turnbull opening the way for talks with the player over personal terms.

Harper has dragged his heels over signing a new contract at West Brom but any move to an English club would involve a transfer fee decided by a tribunal while a move to Celtic would be much lesser, calculated by UEFA because it would be cross border.
