John Kennedy has explained that there is no recruitment issues at Celtic despite the departure of Lee Congerton.

The Head of Recruitment left to join Leicester last month in a move that had been predicted from the moment Brendan Rodgers did his overnight flit.

As the title suggests the Head of Recruitment oversees a whole structure that includes traditional scouts, analysis and contact with agents, it’s not a one man operation.

Ultimately every signing is the responsibility of the team manager as Kennedy explained:

Things are still functioning as normal. What heads of recruitment do, they come in and do what’s right for the manager and the club.

They don’t come in and do things their own way. They have a view, an opinion, but ultimately they have to go out and sign players which suit the manager’s style, the club’s structure.”

Rather than bring in a Head of Recruitment Celtic are looking to appoint a Director of Football, a post last held by Kenny Dalglish until Martin O’Neill arrived in June 2000.

John Park was tipped to fill that role but appears to be about to take up a similar role at Sunderland.

Earlier today it was reported that Nicky Hammond was a leading candidate for the Director of Football role, Hammond was in that role at West Brom until April 2018.
