Celtic reported to have opened transfer talks for a right-back

|

Celtic have been linked with an interest in George Baldock.

According to a report in the Daily Mail talks have opened with Sheffield United to sign the 26-year-old right-back who has a year left on his Bramall Lane contract.

As things stand Tony Ralston is Celtic’s only right-back with Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa moving on while the future of Mikael Lustig is unclear.

Baldock made 27 appearances last season but was also played in right midfield as United joined Norwich in gaining automatic promotion.

A legal dispute over the ownership of the club has held up United’s rebuilding plans with a decision expected soon from the High Court in London that will decide the budget for Chris Wilder in the top flight.

If Baldock becomes available he is likely to attract interest from other Championship clubs with Celtic rarely interested in Championship players unless they are out of contract and available on a development fee.

Sheffield United signed the 26-year-old from Oxford United in 2017.
