Jordan Jones has delivered the annual title warning to Celtic.

Joey Barton, Bruno Alves and Steven Gerrard have previously waltzed into Ibrox and promised the title, or allowed the ‘I’m a winner’ myth to develop before looking on as the hoops disappear over the horizon to lift another title. Indeed, since Barton arrived Celtic have swept up all nine available domestic trophies.

The close season is famous for it’s battle cries but usually come from someone more accomplished than a free transfer from Kilmarnock.

Since January when the move was announced I’ve obviously been trying to focus on Kilmarnock, but it is quite hard,” Jones told The Sun. Now I’m itching to get started at Rangers and put my marker down.

I have no doubt we are going to win the league at some point and hopefully sooner rather than later.

I can’t wait to do that and also getting coached by Steven Gerrard, who was one of my heroes growing up, is really exciting.

I think he has done a really good job already. He has got Rangers playing a lot better. The squad is a lot stronger and the team is a lot more structured.

Obviously if Steven Gerrard tells you to do something you’re going to do it because he has played at the pinnacle of football, he’s captained his country, Liverpool and has won the Champions League.”

The structured squad includes Jamie Murphy and Glenn Middleton who will compete with Jones for a place on the left-wing with Ryan Kent’s Ibrox days completed.

Having scored the winning goal against his future employers, and celebrated in style in January, Jones has a lot to do to win over sections of the Ibrox support.

More promises are expected between now and the start of the SPFL season in August but with the shadow of Mike Ashley and a claim that could reach £10m expected to be resolved on June 18 there is unlikely to be another Barton or Alves arriving to drain the wage bill.
