Neil Lennon has reassured Celtic fans concerned about the club’s performances in recent transfer windows.

Chief Executive Peter Lawwell has come under increasing scrutiny and criticism on the back of three transfer windows that have barely strengthened the first team bur led to a bloated first team squad.

Marvin Compper and Youssouf Mulumba have a year left on lucrative contracts after making virtually no contribution made to last season’s success.

The John McGinn transfer saga is often thrown up against the Celtic chief who appointed Ronny Deila as manager five years ago.

The recent leaked transfer document suggests that most transfer business is completed by the chief executive but while discussing transfer targets Lennon expressed his support for Lawwell’s ability around the negotiating table.

Certainly we’re looking in defensive areas to strengthen,” The Sun reported. “It’s important to be patient. We are very, very calm.

We are talking about it every hour of every day. No matter what people think of Peter, he has the club’s best interests at heart and is a very good negotiator.”

Next month former West Brom Director of Football Nick Hammond will join Celtic with a specific role to assist with transfer activities, the first game of the new season is away to Sarajevo on July 9 in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.
