Neil Lennon is hoping to have some new signing during Celtic’s pre-season trip to Austria and Switzerland.

The hoops have matches on June 26 and 28 in Austria before facing their toughest test against Swiss side St Gallen on July 2.

Lennon is still waiting to make his first signing since being confirmed as first team manager with the club ending their interest in David Turnbull yesterday.

Defenders would appear to be the priority with Mikael Lustig poised to join Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic on the way out with the hoops boss explaining his plans to Celtic TV:

It’s a case of staggering the international boys back into the framework of second and third matches when they’ll get some much needed game time. And obviously we are looking to get some additions in as well, we’ll be hoping to integrate them as quickly as possible.

There’s a huge amount of work going on at the minute and there has been for quite a significant period of time so we’re hoping that we get some positive results on that pretty soon.

Celtic’s first competitive match of the new season will be away to Sarajevo on July 9 in the first qualifying round of the Champions League.

If successful the hoops will be involved in eight consecutive midweek qualifiers as they attempt to return to the group phase.

Reaching the last 32 would be worth around £40m less costs and bonuses but would increase the transfer budget significantly towards the end of the transfer window.
