Mikael Lustig’s move to KAA Gent has still to be completed with the Belgian side already having three right-back’s on their books.

Late on Monday morning Swedish sources reported that the defender was having a medical at Gent but by Tuesday night no deal had been signed.

Neil Lennon hasn’t disguised his wish to get Lustig onto a new deal but that desire doesn’t seem to be shared elsewhere in the club.

Dutch website Voetball Nieuws reports:

The possible arrival of Mikael Lustig is a reality, according to Het Nieuwsblad. According to Swedish sources, the right back is already in Ghent and he has already taken medical tests at the Buffalo. He is said to be able to sign a contract with particularly good conditions. With Lustig, AA Gent would have four right backers. New acquisitions Castro Montes and Reuben Yem also play at that position. In addition, with Souquet there is a fourth right rear

The situation at Gent seems to be the exact opposite to Celtic where Tony Ralston is the only right-back under contract.

Last summer right-back was identified as a position that needed strengthened with Jeremy Toljan signed on loan in January as a short term fix.

Celtic have been linked with an interest in Kilmarnock’s Stephen O’Donnell but until Lustig signs on at Gent there must be a possibility of him signing a new Celtic deal.
