Motherwell react to Turnbull story

|

Motherwell have denied a report that David Turnbull has told friends that he wants to join Celtic.

While the two clubs joust over a transfer fee and sell on terms a Lanarkshire teenager is in the background knowing that any sort of contract could set him up for life.

Eighteen months ago Celtic had a bid for team-mate Trevor Carson rejected by Motherwell and switched their attention to Scott Bain.

In November Carson was diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis which put a question mark over his career.

With the level of interest being shown Turnbull is unlikely to end the transfer window at Fir Park, how his departure is managed will be the difficult part as Motherwell attempt to obtain the maximum transfer fee.

The original ‘told friends’ story was published by a website called Football Insider then picked up by the Daily Record.

Why Russell decided to comment on such a trivial matter at 11pm on a Friday night is open to debate but it does suggest that the issue is becoming too big for a senior Motherwell figure.

With Carson ready to relaunch his career and probably picking up a basic wage of around £1,000/week Turnbull and his agent are likely to be pushing while the iron is hot.
