Rod Petrie celebrated becoming the President of the SFA by refusing to meet the media.
The Hibs chairman was elected unopposed to the role which adds to his clout on influential committees inside Hampden and across the world game.
Petrie has been a committee man since 1998 during which time Gretna, Airdrie and Rangers have gone into liquidation without any form of Financial Fair Play introduced to the Scottish game.
At Easter Road he has ran a very tight ship with the transfer fees for Scott Brown, Kevin Thompson, Steven Fletcher and Gary O’Connor used to pay off the cost of new stands.
The workings of the SFA are notoriously secretive with Petrie opting to shun the cameras and microphones when he took on the role of President.
Speaking to the Daily Record chief executive Ian Maxwell said:
We’ve had a few conversations about trying to humanise him. That will really help.
You’re never in a room and Rod’s not the smartest guy in it. And he’s got a sense of humour, he’s got real humility about him, he’s really good company. He just keeps it fairly well hidden, I suppose. So it’s about drawing that out over the period.
A lot of the clubs will know him and will have dealt with him. They’ll have an opinion and will know him better. But it’s about drawing that out into the public domain. I think it would be good to change it.
He’s a figurehead in terms of UEFA and FIFA, in getting round both those organisations, being the leader of the Scottish FA from a presidential perspective.
He’s absolutely got more than the ability to do all that. It’s just something that we’re going to have to get him out there a bit more.
There appears to have been no mention of VAR at yesterday’s AGM, on the SFA website the lead article covers Petrie’s appointment with no detail given of what was discussed at the AGM.
