Celtic will have to pay £4m to make Tommy Smith their new right-back.

The Huddersfield skipper has been linked with a move to Celtic after Mikael Lustig, Jeremy Toljan and Cristian Gamboa moved on.

Scottish born journalist Alan Nixon has strong contacts across the north of England and has named the price for Smith who has spent all of his career with the Yorkshire side.

Neil Lennon is believed to be in Sweden this weekend with signing a right-back a top transfer priority. There has been speculation linking Celtic with moves for Kilmarnock’s Stephen O’Donnell and Luton right-back James Stacey.

The centre of defence and left-back positions have been strengthened but as things stand Tony Raston is the only right-back going into Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo.

Two wild card signings can be registered with UEFA by 11pm tonight but it’s unlikely that a European debut would be handed to someone within 48 hours of joining the club.
