Jozo Simunovic is expected to be the subject of a £5m bid from Lille according to a report in The Sun.

The defender, who’ll be 25 next month, started both legs of Celtic’s Champions League win over FK Sarajevo but his place will come under threat when Christopher Jullien reaches match fitness and a right-back finally arrives.

The Sun reports:

LILLE are set to launch a £5million bid for Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic. SunSport understands the French side have already made contact with the Hoops. Celtic boss Neil Lennon wants to keep the 24-year-old after his impressive recent form. But Lillie are expected to ramp up their interest in Simunovic in the coming days.

Simunovic arrived from Dinamo Zagreb in 2015 shortly after Celtic sold Virgil van Dijk but has only started 65 SPFL matches during that time due to repeated injuries.

Over the summer Dedryck Boyata, Filip Benkovic, Mikael Lustig and Emilio Izaguirre all left Celtic with Boli Bolingoli the only defender moving in the other direction.

While Celtic are still involved in the Champions League qualifiers it’s highly unlikely that they will sanction the sale of Simunovic who is under contract until June 2021.

In August 2016 while still injured, Simunovic flew to Italy to discuss a move to Torino but Celtic rejected an offer to take him on loan before a guaranteed fee is paid after he had proved his fitness.
