Celtic have bid for midfielder rejected

|

Celtic have had a £1.5m bid for Romaine Sawyers rejected by Brentford.

The midfielder has a year left on his Griffin Park deal with his next contract the most important of his career.

After the collapse of the David Turnbull transfer Celtic are in the market for a midfielder with Olivier Ntcham making it clear that he wants out of Scottish football.

The Daily Mail reports:

Celtic have had an offer of around £1.5million rejected for Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers. The 27-year old has had interest from West Brom and Stoke also in recent months. Sawyers commenced his career in the West Midlands as a youngster at West Bromwich Albion, although he didn’t make a competitive appearance for the Baggies, and he also had a spell in the region with Walsall.

With other English sides interested it looks unlikely that Sawyers will be heading to Celtic this summer.

While the hoops could offer a salary that West Brom and Stoke might struggle to match any new arrival has to fit in with the wage structure of players that have delivered success over the last couple of seasons.

Celtic have until 11pm on Sunday to register new signings for the Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo. Neil Lennon is believed to be in Sweden with signing a right-back the transfer priority.
