Danny Simpson hasn’t quoted Celtic once in a cosy interview aimed at relaunching his EPL career.
After Celtic’s win over FK Sarajevo on Wednesday night The Scottish Sun ran with a story that the former Leicester defender would be reporting to Lennoxtown for a trial spell next week.
That news didn’t go down with Celtic fans who seized on a conviction for domestic violence in 2015 and the fact that Simpson only started three EPL matches last season and was only given a 20 minute farewell appearance after Brendan Rodgers took over at the King Power Stadium in February.
It does seem strange that a 32-year-old that played in 30 matches in Leicester’s 2016 EPL title success is without a club with the Daily Mail interview focusing on his human side without touching his domestic violence conviction.
Simpson is still a free agent and as the summer rumbles on he is weighing up potential destinations. At 32, with a Premier League winners medal in his possession, he is determined to find a good club. Celtic are interested and there are a number of options in England.
“I’d love to go back to the King Power to play against the lads,” he says. “But at the same time I wouldn’t rule out anything abroad, in terms of a new experience.”
According to Simpson, Rodgers is the perfect fit for Leicester, former owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, who died in a helicopter crash in October apparently was like a dad to all of the players.
With no direct quote from the player it seems that this interview and pictures of Simpson training at Celtic are all part of a process aimed at finding a new club closer to his Manchester roots than Lennoxtown.
