Danny Simpson’s Celtic trial is called off

Celtic have ditched their interest in Danny Simpson, according to a report in The Sun.

Within an hour of last week’s win over FK Sarajevo the same newspaper claimed that the former Leicester City defender was to go on trial with Celtic next (this) week.

That news was greeted with outrage by many fans on social media as they highlighted his conviction in 2015 for domestic abuse. Others were less than impressed by taking a 32-year-old on trial who only started three EPL matches last season.

There was never any comment from Celtic about Simpson but it now appears to be a non-issue with The Sun reporting:

CELTIC have pulled the plug on a move for Danny Simpson after landing Israeli ace Hatem Abd Elhamed.

A work permit is required before Elhamed completes his £1.6m move from Hapoel Be’er Sheva but the Israeli club have already wished him good luck at his new club.

If the signing is completed tomorrow he could be added to the Celtic squad to face Nomme Kalju on Wednesday night but it’s more likely that Celtic will wait to assess his fitness before throwing him into action.
