In the absence of a million pound signing the Ibrox spin machine is in action bigging up the stars that have arrived at Ibrox this summer.

Jordan Jones is already fairly well known to the Ibrox fans after turning James Tavernier inside out over the last few seasons and bursting the January bubble with the winning goal for Kilmarnock in the first SPFL match after the winter break.

Last season’s left winger, Ryan Kent won’t be back to work with Steven Gerrard in the coming campaign leaving the Ibrox men without the Young Player of the Year according to PFA Scotland.

Jones faces competition for a place in the side from Jamie Murphy and Glen Middleton but according to Michael O’Neill the 25-year-old is every bit as good as Kent.

When you sign a player from Kilmarnock on a free transfer, he maybe doesn’t have the profile of some other players,” the Northern Ireland boss told The Sun. “But Rangers may be pleasantly surprised in what they have got in Jordan.

He has made a big impact in a short space of time and I have a feeling he is someone who will be around the international team for a long time to come. The early European games will be good for Jordan because the opposition won’t be as tough.

He will get the Rangers fans off their seats. I watched a lot of Rangers last season and I saw how the fans react when Ryan Kent or Daniel Candeias get on the ball. Jordan is a player who brings that excitement.”

Jones was in the side that beat The New Saints 1-0 in a bounce game at Murray Park, on Sunday he’ll make his debut in the glamour friendly against Oxford United.
