Arsenal appear to be redirecting their transfer budget away from their low-ball interest in Kieran Tierney.

After more than a week of positive publicity linking them with the Celtic defender, a move endorsed by such luminaries as Charlie Adam and Charlie Nicholas it seems that Arsenal have switched their limited budget across London to Wilfried Zaha.

Like their interest in Tierney it seems to be Arsenal’s policy to make an opening bid at half of the player’s market value.

Just before 6pm Sky Sports reported:

Arsenal have launched a £40m bid for Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha, Sky Sports News understands.

The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with the Gunners this summer with it understood the player wants to stay in London and play European football.

However, with Palace already losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United for £50m, the club do not want to sell Zaha and value him at £80m – double what Arsenal have initially tabled.

It has been widely reported that Arsenal can afford a net spend of around £50m this summer with Unai Emery having a dressing room full of overpaid players happy with the London lifestyle and bloated contracts.

Mesut Ozil is believed to be on £300,000 a week and is under contract until 2021 with the club refusing to contemplate matching that offer for Aaron Ramsey who joined Juventus on a free transfer today.

Tierney hasn’t made any comment about the speculation linking him with a move to London while Neil Lennon has restricted his comments to stating that every player has his price.
