Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo kept his move to Celtic quiet from his footballing cousins the Lukaku’s.
With Romelu at Manchester United and Jordan playing for Lazio the left-back was slightly out of the picture at Rapid Vienna.
Following a week of negotiations a £3m deal was agreed between the two clubs with Bolingoli-Mbombo completing his move late on Wednesday night.
A transfer isn’t completed these days until all of the social media obligations are met with the new Celtic defender keeping quiet on his deal until it was signed off and the online TV interview completed.
The Sun reports:
Asked if he’d spoken to Belgium hitman Romelu about his transfer, Bolingoli, 24, said: “Actually I didn’t. I didn’t say anything to people about it, so it came as a surprise. It happened really fast and I really didn’t know if it was going to happen or not. But I’m here and very happy. For everyone else it is a big surprise.
“Romelu’s season has started too and I haven’t heard from him since it was announced I had joined Celtic but I’m sure when he hears the news he will contact me.
“I’ve heard from Jordan and it was a big surprise to him as well. Everyone is happy for me and has wished me luck. We were much closer when we were younger, but we are still family.
“Romelu is focused on his football career and I am focused on mine here now, but we stay in contact. We always try to motivate and inspire each other, for sure.”
Although eligible for Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier against FK Sarajevo the new bhoy is likely to be thrown straight into the side even though he returned to pre-season training with Rapid at the same time as Celtic, June 19 and has been involved in three pre-season games.
Celtic failed to add any signings to their squad ahead of last night’s 11pm signing deadline but two wild cards can be added by 11pm on Sunday.
The breaking news overnight, seems more of a utility man than the first pick signings most fans are looking for.https://t.co/FVemw4Simj
