Rod Petrie has been ousted as chairman of Hibs following a takeover by American businessman Ronald Gordon.

Rugby fan Petrie joined the Hibs board in 1996 after working with Tom Farmer in his capacity as an accountant with Ernst & Young.

With an accountants eye on the club Petrie was a deeply unpopular figure at the club overseeing two relegations and a succession of unpopular managers such as Mixu Paatelainen, Colin Calderwood and Terry Butcher.

While Hibs were suffering on the park committee man Petrie was working his way to power at the SFA and is credited with a lead role in the Five Way Agreement of 2012 which eventually led to the transfer of honours from the old Rangers club to the Sevco outfit from Ibrox.

Last month Petrie took a vow of silence as he became President of the SFA, after today’s takeover at Hibs he will hold on to his Hampden blazer with Farmer paying tribute on the club website:

I want to pay tribute to Rod Petrie who has been integral to the building of the Club. Together we picked up the pieces from the receivers of its parent company when the club had nothing and after 28 years of hard work we leave this Club significantly better off than when we walked through the doors all those years ago, with a 20,000 all-seater stadium that is one of the best in Scotland, a first-class training centre and no debt.

It’s believed that Harper is putting in £6m to clear the club debt, over the last 15 years Hibs have sold Scott Brown, Kevin Thomson, Steven Whittaker, Garry O’Connor and John McGinn.
