Kevin Clancy will take charge of Saturday’s SPFL clash between Celtic and St Johnstone despite a horrendous season of mistakes last term.

Despite those errors it seems that Clancy is one of the favoured refs at the SFA as he is given more high profile matches.

Last season his biggest error came during the final Glasgow derby of the season when Jon Flanagan smashed his forearm into Scott Brown’s face. Clancy called the player over and issued a yellow card. The SFA then upgraded it to a red but the Ibrox club won their appeal with Gary McAllister describing the incident as a coming together.

When Celtic visited Livingston on November 11 Clancy saw Dolly Menga head-butt Ryan Christie but decided that a word of warning was sufficient action, the Livi striker was given a retrospective red card by the SFA. Celtic dropped two points in that match.

A few weeks later at Motherwell a ‘goal’ by Filip Benkovic was disallowed for no known reason. Celtic dropped two points in that match.

Scottish referees are sponsored by Specsavers.
