Emilio Izaguirre could be on his way back for a third stint at Celtic.

Neil Lennon signed the defender in August 2010 from Motagua with Brendan Rodgers producing a season long deal 12 months ago after a short stint in Saudi Arabia.

Izaguirre started 13 SPFL matches last season as back up to Kieran Tierney but had left the country by the time the winners medals were handed out after the final home match against Hearts.

A move to the Major Soccer League was anticipated but Eddy Atala, president of Honduran side Motagua, claimed that a return to Celtic is possible.

The Sun reports Atala saying:

We spoke to Emilio Izaguirre’s agents this week and he has offers from clubs in the USA, Japan and Australia. There is also the possibility of him returning to Celtic, but that is only for a short time of six months. If Emilio decides he doesn’t like these offers, then we would of course offer him a contract here. Clearly, the offers elsewhere are better than ours economically, but we have 30 days or so before our transfer deadline so we can wait.”

Celtic currently have Johnny Hayes and Boli Bolingoli as back up to Tierney who has yet to play in any sort of game this season.

Izaguirre’s last appearance was in the 1-0 home win over Kilmarnock in April, during June he played four international matches for Honduras.
