Rod Stewart has accused the Daily Record of publishing bulls***!
Having previously been completely ignored for their stats, surveys and tables, suddenly on Monday morning the Record and other Scottish outlets decided to take notice of the Global Club Soccer Rankings published by some American boffins.
According to the soccer guys Celtic were the second best team in Glasgow which prompted the boys at the Record into action, sharing the news with their on-line followers.
Rather than ridicule the findings that claimed the team that had won the last nine domestic trophies were second best in their own city the findings were presented as some sort of justification of close season recruitment.
In terms of numbers Steven Gerrard has brought in eight with just Lee Wallace departing. Celtic have made three signings with Mikael Lustig, Dedryck Boyata, Emilio Izaguirre, Cristian Gamboa and other fringe players like Youssuf Mulumba, Scott Allan and Marvin Compper moving on.
After reading the report in the Record Rod got on the phone to the Hotline saying:
The guy who wrote it said that Rangers were far ahead of Celtic. But when I looked up the chart this morning it was the other way around.
It starts off with the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona and then all the way down it’s got Celtic and Rangers. But, in actual fact, Celtic are above Rangers.
Now, how they work out this chart I don’t know. It’s all bulls***. But I just thought there was a little error there that I would like to correct on behalf of Celtic!”
Today the soccer guys had Celtic back on top as the leading Scottish club, it doesn’t take a stato-crunching geek to come to that conclusion!
