Emilio Izaguirre’s possible return to Celtic has turned out to be a two hour wonder!

Late this morning a report emerged from Honduras claiming that the defender had the offer of a six month deal to return to the club he first joined in August 2010.

Izaguirre is currently training with Montagua in Honduras with their president, Eddy Atala, claiming that Celtic had an offer on the table alongside options to play in the USA, Japan and Australia.

A few hours after publishing the story The Sun got word back from Celtic and reported:

CELTIC have NOT offered Emilio Izaguirre a new deal, despite claims made by Montagua president Eddy Atala. The club chief claimed the Hoops had given the defender the chance of a short-term return to Parkhead but SunSport understands the Scottish champions haven’t tabled a new contract to the left-back.

Celtic currently have Johnny Hayes and Boli Bolingoli competing for the left-back position in the absence of Kieran Tierney.

The 22-year-old has been the subject of prolonged transfer speculation from Arsenal but has yet to take part in any sort of action since having a double hernia operation in the summer.

With the EPL transfer window closing at 5pm on August 8 it’s unlikely that Tierney will be in action before that date making a move to Arsenal less likely.
