John Hartson has backed Tom Boyd by retweeting a video clip of the infamous Josh Meekings handball incident that was missed by three SFA match officials.

Boyd has come under attack across the media for his comments about John Beaton after the Lanarkshire based referee failed to award Celtic a penalty for hand-ball in the Betfred Cup tie against Dunfermline.

While Saturday’s incident was bad it was nothing compared to the Josh Meekings handball in the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final with Celtic leading 1-0.

Referee Steven McLean, goalside assistant Alan Muir and assistant referee Frank Connor all missed the incident with Caley Thistle going on to win 3-2. The following season McLean was in charge of the Scottish Cup Final.

Yesterday the SFA briefed media outlets that their Compliance Officer would be investigating Boyd’s comments but it remains to be seen if any charges are made with Celtic promising to contest any sanction.
