Stephen Welsh has joined Morton on loan for the season- after signing a contract extension at Celtic.

The central defender has captained Celtic’s reserve side in the absence of Kerr McInroy but now has the chance to get regular first team football with the Championship side.

Morton boss David Hopkin has been playing Peter Grant and Brian McLean in central defence but now has the option of the young Celtic who has been a fixture in Scotland’s international side’s from u-16 to u-19.

Fellow Celts Robbie Deas (Alloa) and Daniel Church (East Fife) have already moved out on loan with no worthwhile reserve football available this season.
