Celtic get defensive boost for Ibrox

Jozo Simunovic is expected to give Celtic a defensive boost by being fit for Sunday’s match at Ibrox.

The defender has missed the last two matches with Video Celts understanding that his on-going knee issue is restricting him to one match a week.

Neil Lennon took the decision to leave him out of last night’s 4-1 win away to AIK but is confident that Simunovic will be 100% fit for Sunday’s top-of-the-table clash. After being hit with a two match suspension the former Croatia Zagreb defender hasn’t played in any domestic match this season.

Kris Ajer is a major doubt after suffering a thigh strain in Sweden while Hatem Abd Elhamed has sustained a hairline fracture of his leg.

Those injuries could force Celtic into playing a back three of Nir Bitton, Christopher Jullien and Simunovic although Mortiz Bauer or Tony Ralston could play at right-back.

Lennon will host a pre-match media conference but it won’t be until 10.45 on Sunday when the team lines are released for the match which will be live on Sky Sports.
