Celtic are believed to be renewing their interest in Omar Elabdellaoui.

The right-back follows on a long list going back to Cristiano Piccini and Timothy Castagne as Celtic look to Olympiacos to find a long term replacement for Mikael Lustig.

With Olympiacos facing Krasnodar in the Play Off stage of the Champions League the Greek side won’t be looking for any distractions with the attractions of Glasgow compared to Athens diminishing after Celtic’s defeat from Cluj.

Picking up on a report in the Daily Mail, the Record reports:

Celtic are back in for Norwegian right-back Omar Elabdellaoui – according to a report.

But now Neil Lennon is on the lookout for a pair of new full-back’s and Elabdellaoui is believed to top the list of potential signing targets. And the Daily Mail claim the Manchester City academy graduate would be willing to take a pay cut on his reported £35,000-per-week wage packet. The Olympiacos defender was on the Hoops’ radar back in January before they instead plumped for an ill-fated loan move for Jeremy Toljan.

With European qualifiers occupying the next two midweeks it looks likely that Celtic’s transfer business will be concentrated into the final days of the transfer window which closes on September 2.

Hatem Abd Elhamed appears to have been given the right-back position for the time being following his £1.6m transfer from Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
