Hammerby fans are believed to have been responsible for the trouble in the away end during Celtic’s 4-1 win over AIK in Stockholm.

Swedish Police moved in with batons drawn at half time during the Europa League Play Off.

Only around 500 Celtic fans travelled to the match with 2,500 seats initially set aside for away supporters with the home side hoping to break their record crowd of 33,000 for a match against Barcelona.

Celtic’s 2-0 home win put a dampener on home hopes of an upset with Hammerby fans taking the chance to stir things up before their weekend derby clash with AIK.

It’s reported that Celtic have video evidence of local fans in the visitors section with those involved in the violence not looking like the familiar faces seen on Celtic’s European away days.

A Celtic spokesperson told The Sun: “We are aware that a number of Swedish supporters entered the area for visiting fans and we are currently investigating events.”

On the park it was plain sailing for Neil Lennon’s side as they raced to a 4-1 victory with the main concerns being injuries to Kris Ajer and Odsonne Edouard.

The defender is rated doubtful for Ibrox due to a groin strain while Edouard should be fit after suffering cramp during the second half of tonight’s match.
